Operation Cobra 2.0-A: Public Prosecutor’s Office reveals millionaire fraud against SeNaSa

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched a forceful judicial deployment after uncovering a corruption scheme that diverted more than 40 million pesos from the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa). Under the so-called Operation Cobra 2.0-A, the authorities have prosecuted 25 people involved in this fraud network against the state health system.

According to information gathered by Alofoke Deportes, the criminal structure was composed of doctors, former collaborators of the institution, and other individuals who, through fraudulent maneuvers, managed to embezzle public funds by taking advantage of their direct ties to the healthcare sector and the health risk administrator.

Judicial request details

Given the gravity of the facts, the prosecuting body has filed a robust case file consisting of 525 pages with the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District. The main requests presented by the Public Ministry include:

  • Imposition of 18 months of pretrial detention for the 25 defendants.
  • That the case be declared a complex litigation process due to the magnitude of the network.

Operation Cobra 2.0-A represents just one of the lines of investigation opened into the various methods used to drain funds from SeNaSa. The inquiries are ongoing, and it is not ruled out that new individuals will be implicated as the process advances.
