Nicolás Maduro Guerra, deputy and son of the deposed Venezuelan president, has reiterated his commitment to achieving the freedom of his father and Cilia Flores. Both have been in custody in the United States for nearly eight months, following their arrest in a military operation carried out in Caracas.
Through his social media, the legislator expressed that his family remains clinging to faith and the hope of a speedy reunion, highlighting that they continue working and advocating for a positive outcome in this judicial process that keeps the couple out of the country.

During his speech, Maduro Guerra provided context regarding the photographs of his father that recently circulated on digital platforms. As he explained, the images were captured on June 25, one day after the earthquake that severely affected Venezuela, leaving a tragic toll of more than 6,500 dead.

The legal process against the former Venezuelan leader in New York focuses on accusations of narcoterrorism and cocaine importation, while Cilia Flores faces charges related to drug trafficking and weapons possession. Both were captured on January 3rd.
This detention scenario coincides with a stage of change in foreign policy. After seven years of rupture, Venezuela and the United States have re-established their diplomatic relations. This rapprochement has allowed for the realization of a large-scale oil agreement with a duration of 25 years, which seeks to raise crude oil production above 1.5 million barrels per day.
The agreement was announced by Delcy Rodríguez, the current acting leader, who expressed gratitude for the dialogue with the U.S. administration. Despite this new climate of commercial and diplomatic understanding, the Maduro family insists that the priority remains the release of the detainees.
