Ministry of Labor expands its services with a new office in East Santo Domingo

The Ministry of Labor has taken a significant step in its decentralization and citizen service improvement process with the inauguration of a modern Local Representation office in East Santo Domingo. This new space, strategically located at the Ramón Oviedo Culture Stop, across from the East Park, has the main objective of bringing mediation, guidance, and labor conflict resolution services closer to the inhabitants of this area.

During the opening ceremony, Minister Eddy Olivares Ortega emphasized that the institution’s absolute priority is the dignified treatment of citizens. According to the official, a commitment to service must be the fundamental pillar for all personnel assigned to this office.

If I arrive at an office and a citizen also arrives, the citizen must be attended to first.

Commitment to quality and formalization

Olivares Ortega highlighted the Dominican Republic’s excellent positioning regarding compliance with labor standards, citing international indicators that place the country as a benchmark in the Americas. In this sense, he stressed that the Santo Domingo Este office is destined to be a model of management and efficiency in the application of current legislation.

Likewise, a collaboration plan was announced with the Dominican Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (CODOPYME) to offer technical and legal assistance. The purpose is to facilitate the formalization of these businesses so that they can access the benefits of decree 672-26, which promotes the participation of MSMEs as suppliers in State social programs.

Reactions and institutional support

The mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dío Astacio, praised the initiative and acknowledged Minister Olivares’ vision in identifying the need to establish this headquarters in the municipality without a prior request. For his part, the Vice Minister of Labor Regulation, Domingo Santana, reiterated the institution’s commitment to excellence and promptness in resolving the demands of workers and employers.

The inauguration was attended by prominent authorities, including:

  • Vice ministers from various areas of the Ministry of Labor (Mediation, Social Security, Inspection, and Employment).
  • The Vice Minister of the Presidency, Alexis Jiménez.
  • The Vice Mayor of Santo Domingo East, Ángela Henríquez.
  • Representatives from the business and trade union sectors.

With this new infrastructure, the Ministry of Labor reaffirms its commitment to modernizing public administration, ensuring that essential services are accessible, efficient, and close to citizens, thus strengthening the labor climate throughout the eastern zone.
