Massive operation in Santiago: More than 30 thousand illegal products seized
In a recent series of strategic interventions in Santiago de los Caballeros, authorities managed to seize more than 30,000 items that were being sold irregularly. These actions are part of a comprehensive plan to combat the sale of merchandise that lacks the legal permits required by current regulations in the Dominican Republic.
The deployment was led by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), with operational support from the Specialized Fuel and Merchandise Control Corps (CECCOM) and direct supervision by the Public Ministry.
Seized items and intervened establishments
During the inspections, the authorities found a wide range of products that did not meet the required marketing standards. Among the confiscated items are:
- Alcoholic beverages of various brands and presentations.
- Medicines without sanitary registration.
- Sexual stimulants.
- High-end cigarettes.
The operation focused on high-traffic shopping centers in the Heart City, specifically at Mall Lindo, Well Being Malls, Plaza Moda Select, and Kindo Mall.
The authorities maintain these types of operations as part of control actions aimed at detecting establishments where products are sold without the corresponding authorizations.
The procedure was attended by Magistrate Lía Collado, prosecutor for the Electronic Crime Department of the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, who ensured compliance with due process during the search of the establishments.
Following this massive seizure, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the control entities will continue with the necessary investigations to determine responsibilities and apply the corresponding administrative and legal sanctions to the owners of the businesses involved.
