Javier Milei reveals that Donald Trump’s comments boosted new strategy regarding the Falkland Islands
The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, has confirmed that the recent update in his administration’s strategy regarding the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands was motivated by statements from former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to the Argentine leader, the shift in stance arose after analyzing Trump’s comments on the United States’ relationship and position toward the United Kingdom regarding this territory.
On September 3rd, Milei announced a tightening of sanctions against companies operating in the archipelago without the proper authorization from the Argentine State. The head of state clarified that this decision was a direct response to the words of Trump, who at the end of August stated in the Oval Office that he was reviewing various international positions, including the one concerning the dispute over the islands that have been under British administration since 1833.
Rejection of electoral motivations
Faced with questioning from opposition sectors, who have suggested that the hardening of Argentina’s stance responds to a political calculation ahead of future elections, Milei was blunt. The president described the interpretations linking this strategic shift to electoral opportunism as a “colossal stupidity.”

Military strengthening and presence in the south
As part of this new geopolitical vision, the Argentine government confirmed the construction of an integrated naval base in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego province. This ambitious project, with an estimated investment of 450 million dollars and a four-year execution period, will begin construction in January.
