Javier Milei bets on the sovereignty of the Malvinas through an ambitious investment plan
Argentine President Javier Milei has outlined a clear roadmap to strengthen his country’s geopolitical position. During his participation in the 47th Annual Convention of the Argentine Institute of Finance Executives (IAEF) in the province of Misiones, the president announced a projected investment of 200 billion dollars for the coming years. According to the head of state, this capital flow in key sectors such as energy, mining, infrastructure, technology, and steelmaking will be the necessary engine to consolidate the historical claim of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.
Decisive actions against illegal exploitation
The Argentine government has decided to toughen its stance against economic activities taking place in the archipelago. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sanctioning procedures have been initiated against 45 individuals and legal entities, accused of participating in the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons on the Argentine continental shelf without proper authorization.
This measure responds to a direct instruction from Milei, who signed a decree to expedite the application of Law 26.659. This regulation governs hydrocarbon activities and establishes severe penalties not only for extraction companies, but also for those firms or individuals that provide logistical or support services to said operations.
The Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the corresponding maritime and insular spaces are Argentine. By history and by right. There is no discussion. They are and will continue to be regardless of who occupies them.

Military reinforcement and exclusion of benefits
As part of his defense strategy, the president confirmed an increase in funding for the Ministry of Defense, primarily intended for the construction of a naval military base in the country’s far south, in a strategic area near the archipelago. Likewise, the Executive has made it clear that any company that violates national legislation by carrying out illegitimate activities in the Malvinas will be automatically excluded from the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI).
Argentina maintains a firm stance based on previous precedents, such as the sanctions applied in 2013 and 2022 to international oil companies, which were prohibited from operating in Argentine territory for a period of twenty years. With this new control scheme, Alofoke Deportes is closely following how the Milei government seeks to transform the country’s economic muscle into a long-range diplomatic and sovereign tool.
