Fugitive convicted of gender-based violence captured after intense search
Following exhaustive intelligence work and the execution of multiple nationwide raids, the Fugitive, Rebel, and Convict Capture Unit (Ucaprec) of the Public Ministry successfully arrested Andrés Horacio Sánchez Mota. The individual must serve a five-year prison sentence for crimes of gender-based and domestic violence.
The arrest was carried out after the individual presented himself to the authorities, in compliance with judicial order number 249-01-2026-SAUT-00573, issued on May 18, 2026, by Judge Franny M. González Castillo, of the Sentence Execution Court of the National District.
Conviction details
The final judgment, issued by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice under number SCJ-SS-26-0467, put an end to a complex judicial process. The highest court declared the appeal in cassation filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to be well-founded, revoking a previous decision that had acquitted the defendant in the Court of Appeal.
The Supreme Court of Justice upheld Sánchez Mota’s guilt, imposing a five-year prison sentence after confirming the constant assaults and threats the victim received, which were even disseminated through digital platforms.
Sánchez Mota was found guilty of violating articles 309.1, 309.2, and 309.3, literal g, of the former Dominican Penal Code. This five-year sentence aligns with the initial decision issued at the time by the Third Collegiate Court of the National District.
Next legal steps
Currently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is managing the corresponding procedures to present the detainee before the Judge of Execution of the Sentence. With this step, the commencement of the fulfillment of the conviction imposed by the courts of the Republic will be formalized.
