Lifeless body found on CA-13 highway: possible crime of passion investigated in Honduras

A macabre discovery shook the inhabitants of the department of Cortés, Honduras, this Thursday morning. The body of a man, estimated to be around 30 years old, was found on the side of the CA-13 highway, on the stretch connecting Puerto Cortés with Choloma, showing clear signs of extreme violence.

After receiving an alert through the 911 National Emergency System, National Police officers arrived at the scene, where they confirmed that the victim was found bound and with multiple gunshot wounds. The case has caused shock due to a message left next to the body.

Authorities are investigating a sign found next to the victim, which suggests that the homicide was motivated by an alleged relationship with a married woman. However, caution is being maintained regarding the possibility that the note is a strategy to divert the course of the investigations.

Lines of investigation and police suspicions

The sub-commissioner of the National Police in Choloma, Allan Sauceda, highlighted that, due to the absence of bullet casings at the scene, everything points to the crime having occurred in a different location than where it was found. It is presumed that the body was transported and abandoned on said road.

  • The victim did not reside in the area, which reinforces the theory of an execution planned in another sector.
  • A phone number included in the message left next to the body is being analyzed as a key clue.
  • Teams from the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI) and Forensic Medicine are working on the identification of the man, who still remains unidentified.

A context of persistent insecurity

This event is part of the complex security situation that Honduras is going through. Recent statistics reflect a worrying landscape, with more than 1,200 violent deaths recorded in the first half of the year, which places the daily average at seven victims. Areas such as Choloma, San Pedro Sula, and La Lima continue to be critical points due to the influence of criminal groups.

Currently, investigators are focused on reconstructing the deceased’s final hours and determining whether the message found is a real clue regarding the motive for the crime or simply a distraction used by the perpetrators to hide the true reasons behind this violent murder.
