Fedom inaugurates the 6th U6 National Championship dedicated to Welington Castillo
The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) has launched its development tournaments for the 2026 season. The highlight of this kickoff is the “6th National U6 Championship Frank Camilo Category,” a sporting event that honors the outstanding career of the former Major League player and current coach of the Dominican team, Welington Castillo.
The event, designed to foster discipline in 5 and 6-year-old children, will take place this Sunday, August 23rd, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The ceremony and the opening matches will be held at Field Number 3 “Héctor Tito Pereyra”, starting at 9:00 in the morning.
Welington Castillo is an icon for the Dominican Republic; he is one of those people who serves as an example to follow for children, young people, and adults alike. On and off the field, he has proven to be a leader who possesses high values to exhibit to everyone, which is why the Fedom Executive Committee unanimously decided to dedicate this U6 National Championship to such a great professional and excellent human being as Welington Castillo.

A record-breaking event for youth baseball
This edition marks a historic milestone for the organization, as it will feature the participation of 528 children distributed across 33 teams from all over the national territory. This growth reflects the success of the development programs that Fedom continuously promotes alongside the U8 and U10 categories.
The competition will feature representation from various leagues and provinces, highlighting the presence of teams from Cotuí, La Vega —the current champions—, the National District, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago, La Romana, San Cristóbal, among other sectors of Greater Santo Domingo and different regions of the country. The event has the institutional support of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), the State Economic Canteens, and the Panorama Media Group.
