Historic night: Tigres del Licey achieve a combined “no-hitter” against the Toros del Este
The Tigres del Licey starred in a memorable day in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) by sealing a no-hitter against the Toros del Este. With a final score of 3-0 at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium in La Romana, the blue pitching staff completely dominated the local offense.
This outstanding performance represents the 12th game in the league’s history under this format and marks the fifth time the capital franchise has achieved this feat. It is, furthermore, the first record of this kind in the championship since November 7, 2023.
A display of mound dominance
The Tigers’ success was based on an impeccable relief strategy. Seven pitchers took turns on the mound to silence the Bulls’ bats, maintaining absolute control of the game throughout the entire route. The protagonists of this pitching gem were:
- Luis Gil
- R. Clemente
- A. Cornielle
- M. Arias
- L. Frias
- W. Suero
- Jean Carlos Mejia
The impeccable performance of the seven pitchers allowed the Tigres del Licey to shut out the Toros del Este without allowing any hits, reaffirming their hierarchy in Dominican winter baseball.
Background of glory for the blues
It is not the first time that Licey has celebrated a similar feat on the same stage. On November 1, 2022, the blue team had already held the Toros del Este hitless, on that occasion with a 2-0 victory. In that historic encounter, the group of pitchers was composed of Lisalverto Bonilla, Elniery García, Arodys Vizcaíno, Jean Carlos Mejía, and Jairo Asencio.
With this new triumph, the Tigres del Licey continue to consolidate their legacy within Dominican professional baseball, adding five no-hitters to their history and demonstrating the depth and quality of their pitching staff.
