Leones del Escogido maintain overwhelming pace and extend their winning streak against the Gigantes

The Leones del Escogido continue to demonstrate their offensive power in the autumn-winter baseball championship, after defeating the Gigantes del Cibao this Thursday with a resounding score of 15-8. With this victory, achieved at the Julián Javier stadium, the scarlet team strings together its fifth consecutive win, consolidating itself as one of the most solid teams at the start of this season.

The power of home runs

The Leones’ offense was the main protagonist of the night, highlighting the power production with three key home runs. José Marmolejos started the offensive party with a solo homer in the first inning, followed by a six-run outburst in the third inning, where Jonathan Guzmán hit a three-run home run that made the difference. Finally, Michael De la Cruz sealed the game in the eighth inning with another three-run homer.

Outstanding mound performance

It wasn’t just the hitting that shone in San Francisco de Macorís; debutant Sauryn Lao had an impeccable performance from the mound. The pitcher earned the win after completing five scoreless innings of work, allowing just five hits, striking out one opponent, and maintaining his control by not issuing any walks. On the home side, Antonio Santos took the loss after allowing four runs in 2.1 innings.

  • Michael De la Cruz: Finished the day 3-for-2, with a home run, four RBIs, and four runs scored.
  • Jonathan Guzmán: Batted 1-for-4, highlighting his three-run home run.
  • Junior Lake: Contributed with two hits, including a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Carlos Peguero (Gigantes): Was the standout for the home team by hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning, finishing with four RBIs.

With this result, the Leones del Escogido raise their record to 6-4 in the standings, while the Gigantes del Cibao drop to 4-6 so far in the tournament.

After this commitment, the Leones del Escogido return home this Friday to face the Estrellas Orientales at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium, in a duel scheduled for 7:15 at night where they will seek to continue their positive streak.
