Leonel Fernández speaks out on the political landscape and the figure of Omar Fernández
The former President of the Republic and leader of the People’s Force, Leonel Fernández, recently addressed the speculations circulating in the political sphere regarding a possible presidential ticket headed by his son, Omar Fernández, together with the renowned communicator Santiago Matías, popularly known as “Alofoke”, for the upcoming elections.
When asked about this combination, the former president was emphatic in pointing out that, under the current legal framework and the existing electoral calendar, it is premature to discuss candidacies. Fernández stressed that the Dominican democratic system establishes defined times for the start of the pre-campaign and the official campaign, so any statement at this stage would be untimely.
We are talking about a long time. That is to say, the electoral and party law does not allow us to talk about those things. We are not in a campaign yet. We have to wait for things to evolve.

Beyond the electoral rumors, the political leader highlighted the good moment his organization is going through. As he stated, the People’s Force is experiencing a constant rise in popular backing, reflected in the support they perceive in various provinces of the national territory.

Stance on the Geneva Consensus
During his participation in an event organized by the United States embassy, the former head of state also referred to the Dominican Republic’s accession to the Geneva Consensus Declaration. Fernández described the initiative as a transcendental step, considering that the principles of the agreement are aligned with the protection of the family, childhood, and life.
The former president concluded his speech by reiterating that, although the political scenario for 2028 is beginning to generate diverse opinions among the public, his current priority remains the strengthening of values and human development, maintaining the necessary prudence in the face of speculation about future electoral ballots.
