Club Deportivo Eldense, a team currently competing in LaLiga Hypermotion, has begun a historic transformation. Carolina Holguín, who served as president of the entity, officially announced her departure from the position after confirming the sale of the club to Argentine star Lionel Messi.

Through an official statement, Holguín expressed her satisfaction with the transfer of command, describing the world champion as the ideal figure to lead the future of the institution. “Eldense begins a new stage hand in hand with Lionel Messi, for me, the greatest living legend of world football,” highlighted the Colombian executive.

For me, being able to pass the baton of this club to you today is an enormous source of pride and, above all, it gives me the peace of mind that I am leaving it in the best hands.

A century-old legacy in new hands

In his farewell message, Holguín recalled that Eldense is celebrating 105 years of history, a trajectory marked by the unconditional support of its city and its fans. The board of directors made a special appeal to the captain of the Argentine national team:

  • Take care of the club and respect the value it holds for its people.
  • Bring great hopes and dreams to the city of Elda.
  • Foster a future that promises to be extraordinary for the organization.

Likewise, he asked the “azulgrana family” to give a warm welcome to the new management, urging them to convey to the Argentine star the feeling and passion that characterize the local fans from the very first day.

Balance of an ambitious management

During his time at the helm of the club after acquiring Pascual Pérez’s shares, Holguín acknowledged that the path was not without its complications. In his own words, he had to face complex and unpopular decisions to achieve the project’s stability.

However, the former president emphasized the achievements reached under her administration, highlighting the growth of the women’s team, the reserve team, and the consolidation of the first team in the second division of Spanish football. Finally, she expressed her gratitude for the constant support of the Elda City Council, led by Mayor Rubén Alfaro, as well as the commitment of the sponsors, staff, and coaching team that were part of this stage.
