Juan Guerrero leads Bameso’s victory against San Lázaro in the 2026 TBS Distrito
In a dominant performance, Juan Guerrero became the central figure of the match by recording an impressive double-double of 37 points and 17 rebounds, guiding the Bameso club to a resounding 85-70 victory over San Lázaro. This matchup marked the conclusion of the regular season of the 50th Superior Basketball Tournament of the National District (TBS Distrito 2026), held at the Arena BanReservas Profesor Virgilio Travieso Soto.
Bameso’s dominance was not just the work of Guerrero; Jean Carlos Quezada also shone with 17 units, 16 rebounds, and five assists, while American reinforcement Jaysean Paige contributed 15 points to the winning cause. On the San Lázaro side, reinforcement Diego Colón led the attack with 17 points, escorted by Brandon Robinson with 12 points, in addition to the contributions of Jordan Geronimo and Edgar Tejeda.
Definition of standings and path to the Knockout Stage
With this result, Bameso finishes the regular round with a 4-6 record, securing their ticket to the next stage. Group A is composed of Mauricio Báez (7-3), San Lázaro (5-5), and Bameso (4-6). In Group B, the standings concluded with Los Prados (8-2) and Rafael Barias (8-2) leading the classification, followed by Huellas del Siglo (3-7), while San Carlos was left out of the contention.
The tournament, which celebrates its Golden Anniversary, is played under a points system where each victory adds two units, granting a pass to the Elimination Phase to the top three teams in each group.
First-half action
San Lázaro began the match with greater intensity, taking the first half with a score of 40-36. During the first two periods, the Jobo Bonito team managed an initial 12-point lead after the first quarter. However, the reaction from Guerrero and Quezada was decisive for Bameso to adjust their strategy and take absolute control of the match after the break.
The Elimination Phase Begins
The excitement of district basketball does not stop. This Tuesday, the Elimination Phase officially begins. The competition schedule opens with a high-level matchup at 7:30 at night, where Mauricio Báez, leader of Group A, will face Huellas del Siglo, third place in Group B.
The 50 TBS District 2026 is organized by the National District Basketball Association (Abadina) and is supported by the Organizing Committee headed by Minister Andrés Bautista, keeping the tradition of superior basketball alive in the Dominican capital.
