JCE inaugurates ID center at UASD to facilitate renewal for citizens
The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has taken a strategic step in its modernization plan by inaugurating a new ID issuance center located on the premises of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). This space, situated in the University Services building, has the primary objective of decentralizing services and offering greater convenience to both the academic community and the general public.
The new service point features cutting-edge technology for the data capture and laser engraving process, allowing citizens to obtain their identity document immediately after completing the procedure.
A technological breakthrough in Dominican identity
During the opening ceremony, the president of the JCE, Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, detailed the progress of the new ID card. A little over four months after the renewal program began, 3.2 million Dominicans already possess the updated document.
We are talking about a polycarbonate that has a lifespan of 25 to 30 years. The information is laser-engraved and here, at the UASD, you take it with you immediately.

Jáquez Liranzo emphasized that the institution seeks to bring its services closer to the people under the premise that it is the entity that must move towards the citizens. Likewise, he stressed that this center is not exclusive to UASD students or employees, but is open to the entire population.
Call for prevention
The head of the JCE called for prudence, urging citizens not to wait until the last moment to change their document. As he recalled, the current ID card will cease to be valid for official procedures on April 1, 2027.
