Jack Nicklaus oversees progress at Las Iguanas Golf Course in Cap Cana
The legendary American golfer Jack Nicklaus, recognized worldwide as one of the greatest figures in the history of this sport, made a strategic visit to Cap Cana to personally oversee the progress of Las Iguanas Golf Course. Together with his Jack Nicklaus Signature Design team, the former athlete inspected the development of this complex, which currently has its first nine holes in full operation.
A world-class project looking ahead to 2027
The ambitious construction plan contemplates finishing all 18 holes by the end of 2026, with the goal of officially opening all its facilities during the spring of 2027. This course has been designed by carefully integrating the natural conditions and the characteristic landscape of the area, a distinctive signature of the projects supervised by Nicklaus.
The presence of Nicklaus and his team reaffirms the solid professional relationship we have built over the years. Our vision is to position Cap Cana as a benchmark for sports tourism internationally, consolidating golf as a fundamental pillar of our offering.
Fernando Hazoury, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cap Cana
Consolidation of sports tourism
The collaboration between the Nicklaus design team and the Destination City is not new; this project adds to the legacy of Punta Espada Golf Club, which in 2026 will celebrate two decades of operations. Cap Cana’s strategy seeks to diversify its offering beyond golf, integrating large-scale international events such as the ATP Challenger 175 tennis tournament and the Ironman 70.3.
- Project milestones: The 18 holes will be ready by the end of 2026.
- Official opening: Scheduled for spring 2027.
- Future vision: Cap Cana is considering the possibility of developing a third golf course as part of its real estate and tourism expansion.
With this expansion, Cap Cana reaffirms its commitment to the development of high-level infrastructure, attracting investors, residents, and athletes from all over the world who seek to combine elite training with a privileged natural environment.
