INTRANT expands its driver’s license services to the border area
The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) has marked a milestone in the country’s road management by inaugurating, for the first time, driver’s license issuance offices in the provinces of Montecristi and Dajabón. This initiative is part of the decentralization and modernization strategy of the National Driver’s License System, bringing essential services directly to citizens in the border area.
With these new facilities, INTRANT seeks to significantly reduce travel times for drivers, who previously had to travel to other jurisdictions to complete their legal procedures.
Operational capacity and regional impact
Each of the two new offices has the technical capacity to process up to 200 licenses daily, totaling 400 documents issued per day between both provinces. According to data from the 2025 Vehicle Fleet Report by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII), this opening positively impacts more than 69,000 vehicle owners in the northwest region.
With these openings, we are bringing the transformation of the National Driver’s License System to two strategic provinces on our border. This means services closer to the people, less travel, and a State with a greater capacity to respond to the needs of citizens.

The offices are equipped with multidisciplinary staff and technology to manage the entire licensing cycle. The available services include:
- Issuance of learner’s permit and first-time driver’s license.
- Renewal processes and duplicates due to loss or damage.
- Motorcycle licenses.
- Road safety education assessments, theoretical exams, and practical tests.
- Biometric data capture, photography, and signature.
- Specialized service for members of the National Police.
The facilities are strategically located on Avenida Libertad, in the municipality of Villa Vásquez (Montecristi), and on Avenida Dulce de Jesús Senfleur, at the corner of Fernando Valerio street (Dajabón). Public service hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon.
