Iran reports tragic toll following recent US attacks
The Government of Iran has updated the official figures following the military offensive carried out by the United States last Tuesday night. According to the most recent report, the number of fatalities stands at 18 people, while the number of injured has risen alarmingly to 142 affected. Tehran has strongly condemned these actions, labeling them as war crimes.
Hossein Kermanpour, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Health, detailed that among the injured people are 61 women and 44 minors. This update marks a significant increase compared to preliminary reports, which initially placed the number of injured at 68.
Impact on civilian areas and celebrations
One of the most critical episodes occurred in the village of Kuhestak, Hormozgan province, where a projectile directly struck a home that was hosting a wedding celebration. Mojtar Salahshur, provincial director of the Red Crescent, confirmed that this attack left a toll of four dead and 68 injured.
The offensive also affected other strategic points in the country:
- Khuzestan: Seven people lost their lives in three different locations following missile strikes.
- Kermanshah: The Revolutionary Guard confirmed the death of four members of its aerospace force.
- Lavan Island: Three members of the Islamic Basij militia died during military operations.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced these acts as brutal war crimes, drawing comparisons to previous incidents recorded since the start of the conflict on February 28th, which have severely affected educational centers and residential areas.
Washington’s stance on the escalation
For its part, the United States Government has defended its military operations, arguing that this is the second offensive in a 48-hour period directed against specific targets of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to Washington, these actions are in response to attempted aggression by Iran against commercial maritime transport in the Strait of Hormuz and against U.S. military personnel deployed in the region.
This escalation of violence keeps the international community on alert, fearing that the instability in the area will continue to deepen and further affect the civilian population in the territories involved.
