Intense international search following shooting at electronic music event in Switzerland
Swiss authorities have issued a national and international arrest warrant for those responsible for the armed attack that took place early Sunday morning at an electronic music festival in the city of Aarau, in the north of the country. The tragic event left one 22-year-old woman dead and five people injured.
The Federal Office of Police has deployed specialized teams in the canton of Aargau to collaborate closely with the local police, who are leading the investigations. So far, the whereabouts of the attackers are unknown, as they managed to flee before law enforcement arrived at the crime scene.
Evidence and lines of research
One of the key points in the forensic analysis is the discovery of shell casings of different calibers at the scene. According to experts, projectiles compatible with pistols or submachine guns and others corresponding to an assault rifle were used. However, the authorities remain cautious about the number of individuals involved, as they do not rule out that a single individual may have carried multiple weapons.
Researchers are working under three main hypotheses to clarify the motives for the attack:
- A possible terrorist attack.
- An indiscriminate attack against the attendees.
- A criminal act linked to a settling of scores, although this line of investigation has lost strength after it was determined that the victims appear to have been selected randomly.
The Aargau police have indicated that there are no direct links between the victims, which reinforces the theory that it was an act of violence without a specific prior target.
Due to Aarau’s proximity to the German border, located less than 40 kilometers away, the German police have joined the search efforts to prevent the suspects from managing to evade justice by crossing territorial boundaries.
