INEFI optimizes infrastructure and teacher training for the 2026-2027 school year
Ahead of the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) has launched an ambitious strengthening plan that includes the intervention of sports facilities, the construction of roofs, and an extensive training program for technical and teaching staff throughout the Dominican Republic.
Under the leadership of Alberto Rodríguez Mella, the institution seeks to ensure that students have optimal spaces for physical and recreational development, aligning with the policies promoted by the Government of President Luis Abinader. Rodríguez Mella highlighted that these actions are fundamental to raising the quality of sports education in the country.
This will be the best school year in school sports and physical education; we have prepared the facilities to make that a reality.

High-impact sports infrastructure
The infrastructure program has achieved the renovation of more than 40 sports courts distributed across 13 provinces, including the National District, Bahoruco, Hato Mayor, Montecristi, San Cristóbal, María Trinidad Sánchez, San José de Ocoa, Samaná, Monte Plata, Puerto Plata, and Santiago.
Among the most notable works are the construction of roofs in strategic educational centers, such as:
- Mauricio Báez High School (La Perito), San Juan de la Maguana.
- San Miguel Fe y Alegría Polytechnic.
- Emma Balaguer de Vallejo School and Santo Cura de Ars School.
- Pituca Flores Educational Center, in Capotillo.
- Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Polytechnic Sports Center, in Santiago.
In addition, the Domingo Savio Boarding School stands out for the incorporation of a soccer field, an introductory athletics track, and a sports center, complemented by the intervention of four fields for baseball practice.
Pedagogical innovation and training
Beyond infrastructure, INEFI is committed to the specialization of its human capital. Teachers have actively participated in international congresses on management and physical education. Likewise, specialized workshops on psychomotricity and ludomotricity were held, focused on pedagogical work with children from zero to six years old.
The educational strategy is reinforced with the implementation of Motor Skills Classrooms and School Sports Initiation Centers (CIDE), designed to identify and enhance the talent of young people from their early years in the educational system.
To ensure the success of classroom activities, the organization is also carrying out a national distribution campaign of kits and sports equipment, providing teachers with the necessary tools to deliver comprehensive and quality physical education in this new school term.
