Indotel awards frequencies to Viettel and Claro to transform the telecommunications sector in the DR
The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) made official this Wednesday the awarding of radio spectrum frequencies to the companies Viettel Global Investment JSC and Compañía Dominicana de Teléfonos (Claro). This measure, the result of an international public tender, has as its main objective to boost technological infrastructure, improve service quality, and stimulate competition in the national market.
Guido Gómez Mazara, president of the Board of Directors of Indotel, highlighted that the decision was made unanimously, after validating that the committee responsible for the International Public Tender INDOTEL-LPI-001-2026 strictly complied with the terms and conditions and the current legal framework.
New players and greater competitiveness
One of the most relevant points of this process is the entry of a new competitor into the local market. Regarding this development, the head of Indotel stated:
The public announcement is that this bidding process creates the conditions for a new player in the telecommunications sector to be part of this process. As a regulatory body, we have the obligation to make this decision public, which will evidently transform the sector in the country.
