Weather forecast: Indomet warns of rain and thunderstorms for this weekend

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a detailed report on the weather conditions that will affect the Dominican Republic over the weekend. For this Saturday afternoon, local downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts are expected in various provinces of the national territory.

Given this scenario, the agency has issued a preventive alert regarding possible urban flooding that could affect Greater Santo Domingo. Although an environment with little rain will prevail during the morning, passing showers cannot be ruled out in coastal areas of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean.

Areas under alert and weather evolution

The increase in atmospheric instability, driven by daytime heating and moisture from the east/northeast wind, will mainly affect the following provinces:

  • La Altagracia, Hato Mayor and El Seibo.
  • Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez and Espaillat.
  • San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana.
  • Greater Santo Domingo, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte and Monseñor Nouel.

For Sunday, the meteorological situation will intensify due to the approach of a trough, which will increase humidity levels in the troposphere. This phenomenon will extend precipitation towards the Central mountain range and the northeast and southeast regions of the country.

The trough will maintain favorable conditions for moderate downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts during the beginning of next week, mainly affecting border areas and the interior of the country in the afternoon hours.

Recommendations for extreme heat

Despite the rains, the environment will remain hot with maximum temperatures ranging between 31 °C and 35 °C. Alofoke Deportes reminds the public to follow the authorities’ recommendations to avoid heatstroke:

  • Stay constantly hydrated.
  • Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Prioritize the care of children, the elderly, and pregnant women.

About post-tropical cyclone Isaias

It is currently located over Alabama, United States, with sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour.
