Road infrastructure: Government promotes five new bypasses to improve national mobility
The Dominican government has launched an ambitious infrastructure plan that includes the construction of five major strategic bypasses. The central objective of these works is to decongest urban centers and optimize logistical and commercial connectivity between the different regions of the country.
According to the information provided by the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, the projects under development are located in Navarrete, Los Alcarrizos, Moca, San Francisco de Macorís, and La Otra Banda. These interventions complement the progress achieved with the Azua bypasses and the recently inaugurated road in Baní.
Strategic impact of the works
Minister Estrella highlighted that the Navarrete bypass is of capital importance, as it will not only benefit the municipality, but will also be a key axis for direct connection with the four provinces of the Northwest Line and the port of Manzanillo, thus boosting the transport of cargo and passengers.
Passing through Navarrete can currently represent time losses of between half an hour and up to an hour and a half due to constant traffic jams.

For its part, the La Otra Banda bypass is emerging as a vital solution for thousands of workers who commute daily from Higüey to the Bávaro-Punta Cana tourist hub, significantly reducing travel times.
Connectivity projections
- Logistics optimization: Facilitates the flow of heavy cargo to major ports and production zones.
- Urban efficiency: Reduces heavy traffic within populated centers, decreasing pollution and vehicular stress.
- Future expansion: The state plan contemplates additional interventions in Esperanza and other critical points of the national territory to ensure a more fluid road network.
With these actions, the Ministry of Public Works reinforces its commitment to the modernization of Dominican infrastructure, betting on comprehensive solutions that respond to the growth of the vehicle fleet and the economic development needs of each province.
