Jefferson Rojas leads Giants’ offensive display against Licey

In a day full of power, rookie Jefferson Rojas stole the spotlight by hitting two home runs and driving in three runs, guiding the Gigantes del Cibao to a resounding 7-1 victory over the Tigres del Licey. This matchup, corresponding to the 2026-27 winter baseball season, took place at the Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal.

Rojas entered the history books for the San Francisco de Macorís team by becoming the first player in the franchise to hit two home runs in the same game at the capital city’s stadium since Nelson Cruz achieved it in December 2008. His display of power began in the second inning against starter Vladimir Gutiérrez and was solidified in the seventh inning against pitches from Luis Frías.

Rojas’ performance was key for the Giants to maintain a perfect 2-0 record at the start of the Banreservas Cup competition.

In addition to Rojas, Agustín Ramírez contributed with a solo home run, while from the mound, reliever Cristopher Molina earned the win. On the Licey side, despite the setback, the team maintains dominance in the historical head-to-head series between both organizations.

Estrellas Orientales maintain their undefeated streak

In San Pedro de Macorís, the Estrellas Orientales extended their good momentum by defeating the Leones del Escogido 8-3 at Tetelo Vargas Stadium. Panamanian pitcher Jaime Barría was the central figure of the game, dominating the Leones’ offense for five innings in which he allowed only one hit.

With this victory, the green team places its record at 2-0, leaving the Leones at the bottom of the standings with a 0-2 start in this beginning of the tournament dedicated to Héctor José Rizek Llabaly.

Los Toros del Este open their win column

Finally, at Cibao Stadium, the Toros del Este secured their first win of the season by defeating the Águilas Cibaeñas 5-3. The Romanense offense was effective early on, highlighted by a three-run attack in the third inning that proved decisive.

  • Phillips Valdez took the decision as the winning pitcher.
  • Joe Garabito closed the game to earn the save.
  • Gerson Garabito was the losing pitcher for the Águilas, who now stand at 0-2 in the standings.

Dominican professional baseball action continues this Sunday with three matchups scheduled for 5:00 PM, where the teams will look to define their positions in this early stage of the championship.
