Águilas Cibaeñas bet on versatility and pitching depth for the 2026-2027 season

With the firm goal of capturing the crown in the upcoming Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) tournament, the management of the Águilas Cibaeñas has outlined its strategy for the 2026-2027 season. Gian Guzmán, general manager of the yellow team, emphasized that the key to success this year lies in the flexibility of their roster and a significantly reinforced pitching staff.

During the team’s official presentation, Guzmán highlighted that the squad will maintain a base structure similar to the previous one, but with strategic adjustments that will provide manager Luis Pipe Urueta with greater tools for tactical decision-making on the field.

This year we will have a team very similar to last year’s, counting on a lot of versatility, since we have several players who can play in different positions.

Versatile talent and key returns

The team’s depth will be reflected in the ability of its players to cover multiple positions. Among the figures who provide this versatility are Adalberto Mondesí, Raynel Delgado, J.C. Escarra, and Steward Berroa. Likewise, the Aguilas fans celebrate the integration of Christopher Morel, who is already working alongside his teammates after his absence in the last campaign.

Strength on the mound

For the Cibao management, the starting rotation shows a notable improvement compared to previous years. The group of starters will be led by pitchers of the caliber of Joan Adon, Gerson Garabito, Jorge Tavárez, and the left-hander Jhordany Mezquita. Two foreign reinforcements will join this core, arriving soon to complete the rotation.

Regarding the bullpen, the pitching staff will feature arms with experience and quality in Major League Baseball:

  • José Leclerc
  • Jorge Alcalá
  • Luis González
  • Justin Martínez

Guzmán underscored the relevance of having Leclerc and Alcalá, pieces that were not available last season, in addition to the proven effectiveness of Luis González in the Dominican league. For his part, Justin Martínez will be available from the start of the tournament, providing immediate depth to a bullpen that looks much more solid.

With the integration of two foreign position players—a center fielder and an infielder—the Águilas Cibaeñas are closing ranks with a balanced mix of experience and young talent, focused on reclaiming their leadership position in winter baseball.
