Ron Aledo asserts that international support would transform Haiti’s landscape

Ron Aledo, a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) contractor and former director of border policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, presented a critical view on the Haitian crisis. During an event organized in Santo Domingo by the El Demócrata Foundation, the expert maintained that the situation in Haiti could undergo a radical change if Western powers redirected a minimal portion of the resources allocated to the conflict in Ukraine toward the Caribbean nation.

If the European Union and the United States had put into Haiti half of half of half of half of half of what they have put into the Zelensky government in Ukraine over the last four years, Haiti would be a different country, completely different.

Towards a model of stability and basic services

Aledo emphasized that the goal is not to turn Haiti into an immediate economic power, but to guarantee minimum conditions of well-being. According to his analysis, a strategic investment would allow for strengthening internal security, bolstering police forces, and reactivating local agriculture. Furthermore, the expert highlighted the urgent need to improve essential services for the population:

  • Access to health services and functional clinics.
  • Guarantee of drinking water supply.
  • Access to basic education for citizens.

The former U.S. official stressed that instability in Haiti is not an isolated problem, but a factor that directly impacts the Dominican Republic due to its geographical proximity. Therefore, he urged both nations to intensify their diplomatic efforts to raise awareness among the United States and Europe about the need for more robust cooperation.

Analysis of the Haitian crisis in Santo Domingo

The statements were offered within the framework of the panel titled “Haiti: chaos or conspiracy?”, a space for reflection convened by the El Demócrata Foundation. This meeting featured the participation of figures such as retired Colombian General Juan Carlos Buitrago Arias and communicator Francisco Tavárez, president of the organizing entity.

The event also served as a stage for the presentation of the book “The Haitian Conspiracy and the Dominican Curse,” a work by Francisco Tavárez that delves into the political and social complexities that define the current security crisis on the island, seeking to open a necessary debate on the challenges shared by the international community.
