Dominican Republic boosts air connectivity with the Middle East through the LACAC
The Dominican Republic, representing the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC), has initiated a series of strategic efforts to strengthen aeronautical ties with key Middle Eastern nations. The main objective is to foster technical cooperation, improve air connectivity, and strengthen institutional exchange between the regions of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Arab countries.
This approach was consolidated during the development of the El Alamein International Airshow 2026, held in Egypt, where Julio Peña Guzmán, president of the LACAC and the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) of the Dominican Republic, led the regional delegation together with the secretary of the organization, Jaime Binder.
Strategic alliances in El Alamein 2026
During the event, which was attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the delegation held high-level bilateral meetings. Peña Guzmán met with Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh Ahmed Zaky Elhefny, to explore mechanisms that allow for greater integration and constant dialogue between the aeronautical authorities of both regions.
Likewise, a key meeting was held with the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia (GACA), Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej. In this meeting, progress was made on the proposal to organize a special session during the Future Aviation Forum 2027, where the aim will be to solidify collaborative initiatives between Saudi Arabia and the 23 member states that make up the LACAC.
Our interest is that these meetings translate into concrete results: technical cooperation, exchange of capabilities, and new connectivity opportunities between Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. The CLAC will be the institutional bridge to bring both regions closer together.
