Judicial process against La Tora for defamation and slander enters preliminary phase
This Thursday, August 20, the Seventh Instruction Court of the National District is scheduled to hear the preliminary hearing in the case facing communicator Claudina Pérez Ramírez, popularly known as “La Tora.” The public figure is accused of the alleged commission of repeated acts of defamation and slander against journalist Iluminada Muñoz.
Details of the complaint and the legal process
The legal litigation is based on a criminal complaint filed in 2024. According to the plaintiff’s lawyers, the process arises from an alleged smear campaign that reportedly spanned several years, using various digital platforms and public opinion spaces to issue statements against Muñoz.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office, after concluding its investigative stage, has formalized the accusation after gathering the necessary evidentiary elements that support the complaint. It is expected that during the hearing, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice, both parties will present their arguments before the bench so that it is the court that evaluates the relevance of the evidence.
The defense for journalist Iluminada Muñoz seeks to establish the corresponding legal responsibilities, emphasizing that any potential financial compensation derived from this judicial process will be destined for noble social causes, including support for institutions that work in cancer prevention and care in the country, as well as the strengthening of ethical communication practices.
Next steps in court
Following the presentation of evidentiary elements by the legal representatives, the court must determine the continuity of the process and the possible opening of a trial, always under strict compliance with the legislation in force in the Dominican Republic.
