Dominican Republic formally joins the Geneva Consensus
The United States Ambassador to the country, Leah F. Campos, hosted a special reception at her official residence to commemorate the Dominican Republic’s recent accession to the Geneva Consensus Declaration coalition. This milestone was formalized following the signing of the accession agreement held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the event, the diplomat highlighted that this global initiative has as its fundamental pillars the promotion of women’s health and well-being, the protection of life, and the strengthening of the family unit. Likewise, she emphasized that the pact defends the sovereign right of each nation to define its own internal policies, aligned with its legislative processes and national priorities.
The Geneva Consensus Declaration is about sovereignty. It is fundamental that each country maintains its ability to decide its policies without external pressure from international organizations that often attempt to influence nations with fewer resources.

The United States, a founding member of the coalition since 2020, assumed the Secretariat of this body last June. With the entry of the Dominican Republic, the bloc reaches a total of 43 member countries, representing a population of approximately 2 billion people worldwide.

The meeting featured a prominent representation of government authorities and civil society sectors, including:
- Víctor “Ito” Bisonó Haza, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
- Víctor Atallah, Minister of Public Health.
- Bethany Kozma, Secretary of the Geneva Consensus Declaration and Director of the Office of Global Health Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
- Representatives of the Catholic Church and various Christian denominations.
The ambassador took the opportunity to recognize the work of local organizations that have been key in promoting life and family. Among the institutions mentioned were the Forum of Women in Defense of Life and Family (FOMUDEVI), the Christian Action Group, the Happy Marriage Movement, and Youth With A Mission (YWAM), whom Campos thanked for their constant commitment to these values.
