David Collado leads electoral preferences towards 2028 according to a Markestratega poll

The Dominican political landscape ahead of the 2028 presidential elections is beginning to take shape. According to the results of the recent national survey conducted by the firm Markestratega, the current Minister of Tourism, David Collado, is emerging as the figure with the greatest support both within the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and in a potential general contest.

The study, conducted between October 2 and October 4, 2026, positions Collado as the undisputed favorite within his political organization. When asked who should represent the ruling party, the Minister of Tourism reaches 48.8% of the voting intention.

Internal PRM scenario

Internal polling reveals a significant advantage for Collado over other prominent leaders of the ruling party:

  • David Collado: 48.8%
  • Carolina Mejía: 19.0%
  • Raquel Peña: 4.7%
  • Guido Gómez Mazara: 3.8%
  • Tony Peña Guaba: 1.6%
  • Wellington Arnaud: 1.2%

When making a direct comparison between the two figures with the most support, Collado consolidates with 50.8% compared to the 21.8% that the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, would obtain.

Projections against the opposition

In presidential head-to-head matchups, the study analyzed the competitiveness of potential PRM candidates against opposition figures. In the event of a David Collado candidacy, the scenario shows a solid lead over opposition leaders:

Against Omar Fernández, the Minister of Tourism obtains 46.1%, surpassing the senator’s 24.2%, while Santiago Matías registers 11.8% and Gonzalo Castillo 9.5%.

When the matchup is measured against former president Leonel Fernández, Collado widens his margin to 48.5%, leaving the Fuerza del Pueblo leader with 20.6%, Santiago Matías with 12.8%, and Gonzalo Castillo with 9.3%.

Analysis of Carolina Mejía

The survey also evaluated the performance of Carolina Mejía as a presidential candidate. In a hypothetical matchup against Omar Fernández, Mejía leads with 38.6% compared to 32.3% for the opposition candidate. Likewise, when measured against Leonel Fernández, the capital’s mayor prevails with 40.0% compared to 25.8% for the former president.

Study methodology

Markestratega’s research was based on a sample of 1,200 citizens registered in the Central Electoral Board’s electoral roll. The study has a 95% confidence level and a national margin of error of 2.8%, covering a geographical distribution that includes Greater Santo Domingo, and the North, South, and East regions of the country.
