Promoting female self-employment in San Cristóbal with the delivery of sewing machines
With the firm purpose of strengthening the local economy and fostering the financial independence of women in San Cristóbal, the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Food (DASAC) formally delivered nine modern sewing machines to the Playa Linda Promotion and Development Aid Center.
During the delivery ceremony, the institution’s general director, Edgar Augusto Féliz Arbona, highlighted that this contribution transcends the material. According to the official, it is about providing women with an essential work tool to start their own sewing workshops, which translates into a direct improvement in the quality of life for their households.
This is a commitment from the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, to the sisters of the congregation of the Philippine Missionary Sisters of Teaching, who manage the center. We have been providing responses; in the first stage, we carried out the roofing of the premises, and now we are delivering these machines for the training and development of many women.

Commitment to community development
This initiative is integrated into the strategic programs executed by DASAC with the goal of improving the living conditions of families in vulnerable situations. The delivery seeks, in addition to technical training, to ensure that the beneficiaries can successfully enter the labor market through self-employment.
Adalgisa Valdez Isabel, director of the congregation, expressed her gratitude to the authorities for responding to the community’s call. “Thanks to God, to the President of the Republic, and to Dr. Edgar Féliz, who allow us to celebrate the future of these women with hope,” stated the religious sister.
The activity was attended by the governor of San Cristóbal, Pura Casilla, who reiterated the central government’s commitment to the most needy sectors and the positive impact that these actions generate in the province.
