Body found in advanced state of decomposition at Migration headquarters
A macabre discovery shook the facilities of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in Santo Domingo this Monday. The lifeless body of a man was located inside a truck owned by the institution, which was parked at the back of the premises awaiting technical repairs.
The alert was triggered when an employee of the entity noticed a foul odor coming from the cargo vehicle, which had been immobilized in the area for approximately ten days. Given the suspicion, security personnel immediately notified the competent authorities.
Details about the victim
The deceased was preliminarily identified as Nelson de los Santos, 39 years old, popularly nicknamed “Gualey.” According to the testimonies gathered, De los Santos was a well-known figure in the vicinity of the headquarters, where he earned a living performing informal tasks such as washing vehicles and parking cars.
Relatives of the deceased indicated that, on repeated occasions, they tried to seek professional help for him to undergo a rehabilitation process due to his recurring problems with the consumption of controlled substances.
Ongoing research
Agents from the Central Directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) and specialists from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) arrived at the scene and proceeded with the removal of the body and its subsequent transfer to perform the pertinent analyses to determine the exact cause of death.
For its part, the General Directorate of Migration issued a statement ensuring its full willingness to collaborate with the Public Ministry and the National Police in clarifying the facts. Likewise, the institution reaffirmed that it is currently working on the construction of a perimeter fence with the aim of optimizing security levels and access control at its facilities.
