CONFENAGRO supports the National Mechanization Program to transform the Dominican countryside

The National Confederation of Agricultural Producers (CONFENAGRO) has expressed its firm support for the recent implementation of the National Mechanization Program (PRONAMEC), an initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture that seeks to revolutionize production practices in the Dominican Republic. For the association, this project is a necessary strategic response to the current challenges of the sector, such as the constant rise in operating costs and the limited availability of labor in rural areas.

The organization emphasized that mechanization should not be limited to the simple acquisition of modern equipment. According to its directors, the program must be consolidated as a public policy of national scope and permanent nature, focused on a true technological transformation. The main objective is to ensure that small and medium-sized producers have access to specialized machinery that adapts perfectly to their needs and types of crops.

At CONFENAGRO, we understand that mechanization must be conceived as a comprehensive and permanent public policy for the technological transformation of the sector, which allows producers, especially small and medium-sized ones, to access equipment suitable for their crops and production conditions.

Keys to the success of PRONAMEC

CONFENAGRO highlighted the fundamental pillars that, in its view, will determine the positive impact of this initiative. Among the most valued points are:

  • Strengthening machinery services and technical training for personnel.
  • The creation of accessible financing schemes for field workers.
  • The promotion of strategic partnerships that allow for the democratization of technology use.
  • A territorial deployment planned in stages, respecting the particularities of each agricultural region.

The organization stressed that the success of PRONAMEC should not be evaluated exclusively by the number of machines integrated into the field, but by its real capacity to reduce production costs and improve the profitability of producer families. In this context, CONFENAGRO reiterated its commitment to collaborate closely with the authorities to supervise the implementation and ensure that the benefits reach every corner of the national territory.

Finally, the guild maintained that technological modernization is just one of the elements necessary to ensure the country’s food sovereignty. According to their vision, this must be accompanied by comprehensive improvements in infrastructure, efficient water resource management, access to credit, and a constant commitment to innovation, factors they consider indispensable for achieving a competitive national agricultural sector that is resilient to global challenges.
