Israel and Colombia agree to eliminate visa requirement for their citizens

In a strategic move that seeks to strengthen ties between both nations, the Government of Israel has confirmed that, starting next September 1st, the visa requirement for Colombian and Israeli citizens will be reciprocally eliminated. This measure will significantly facilitate migratory flow, boosting exchange in key sectors such as tourism, trade, education, and culture.

The agreement is the result of a series of high-level diplomatic conversations held between Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa’ar, and his Colombian counterpart, Omar Bula Escobar. This understanding marks a milestone in bilateral diplomacy, consolidating a process of rapprochement after a period of significant political tensions.

A new chapter in bilateral relations

The decision to waive the visa is perceived as a clear sign of strengthening international ties. This step is especially relevant when considering the recent context, where relations between both States went through moments of friction during the administration of former President Gustavo Petro, marked by critical stances regarding the situation in the Middle East and the breaking of diplomatic relations at that time.

The Government of Israel has highlighted that this pact is the direct result of recent diplomatic efforts, aimed at restoring and enhancing mutual cooperation between the two countries.

What you need to know about the new regulations

  • Start date: The visa exemption will formally enter into force on September 1st.
  • Reciprocity: The measure applies both to Colombian citizens wishing to visit Israel and to Israeli citizens traveling to Colombia.
  • Conditions: Although the visa is eliminated, travelers must comply with the standard immigration regulations established by the authorities of each country at the time of entry.

With this implementation, both governments are confident that human mobility will be much more dynamic, fostering a closer and more productive relationship between the two nations in the years to come.
