Promoting social security education in Dominican schools

The National Social Security Council (CNSS) and the Ministry of Education (MINERD) have taken a fundamental step in the civic education of the nation by launching a pilot plan aimed at integrating social security education into the school curriculum. The launch of this project took place at the Gregorio Santos School, located in Pedro Brand, where specialized teaching materials were delivered to students and teachers.

The main objective of this initiative is for students, from an early age, to understand the fundamentals of the Dominican Social Security System, recognizing their rights, duties, and the benefits it offers for the well-being of Dominican families.

Social security is a fundamental pillar for the well-being of individuals and families, and sowing this knowledge in the classrooms is investing in the future of our country.

Educational program details

The implementation of this program is the result of an inter-institutional effort sustained over several years. Ancell Scheker, Vice Minister of Technical Pedagogical Affairs of MINERD, highlighted the importance of the coordination between both entities to ensure that this content effectively reaches the classrooms.

The educational proposal is supported by pedagogical resources designed specifically for each school stage:

  • Primary Level: Materials include readings and didactic activities that explain the functioning and basic principles of social security in a simple way.
  • Secondary Level: The content delves into the structure of the system and the various types of insurance, fostering a practical and technical understanding of the subject.

To make the learning process more dynamic, the event featured the presence of “Consejito,” the CNSS institutional mascot, who facilitated interaction with the students. The technical coordination of this plan has been led by Maribel Justo, head of Educational Programs, together with Henry González, director of Planning and Development at the CNSS, who seek to strengthen the reach and positive impact of this training on the student population.
