Social Security education reaches Dominican classrooms with pilot plan
The National Social Security Council (CNSS) and the Ministry of Education (MINERD) have launched a far-reaching educational project to integrate social security education into the Dominican school system. The Gregorio Santos School, located in the municipality of Pedro Brand, was selected as the educational center where the first step of this pilot plan was taken with the delivery of specialized teaching materials.
The central objective of this initiative is for students, from their early years of education, to understand the foundations, rights, and duties that govern the Dominican Social Security System. It seeks to foster a culture of knowledge that allows future generations to value this essential pillar for family and social well-being.
Social security is a fundamental pillar for the well-being of individuals and families, and sowing this knowledge in the classrooms is investing in the future of our country.
Aura Celeste Fernández Rodríguez, General Manager of the CNSS
A comprehensive pedagogical strategy
The implementation of this program is the result of an institutional coordination effort that the CNSS and the MINERD have developed over the last few years. Ancell Scheker, Vice Minister of Technical Pedagogical Affairs of the MINERD, highlighted the importance of this joint effort to bring relevant educational content to students.
The educational plan is supported by pedagogical resources specifically designed according to the school level:
- Primary Level: Materials with readings and playful activities that explain the benefits and principles of social security in a simple way.
- Secondary Level: Technical guides that delve into the structure of the system and the various types of insurance, promoting a practical understanding of institutional operations.
To make the learning process more approachable and dynamic, the event featured the presence of “Consejito,” the CNSS institutional mascot, who interacted with the students during the presentation. The technical coordination of this project has been under the responsibility of Maribel Justo, head of Educational Programs at the CNSS, and Henry González, director of Planning and Development of the entity, who have led the deployment of the activities in the classrooms.
