“Chequéate RD” initiative brings preventive health to San José de las Matas
The municipality of San José de las Matas, located in the province of Santiago, was the setting for the 608th session of the Chequéate RD program. This initiative, focused on the timely detection of breast, cervical, and prostate cancer, reaffirms the commitment to bring free and specialized medical services directly to the most remote communities in the country.
The operation was under the direction of Dr. Julio Landrón, executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), who highlighted the positive impact this strategy has had since its implementation in May 2021. According to official figures, the program has managed to screen and evaluate more than 140,000 patients through the more than 600 sessions held nationwide.
Comprehensive care and guaranteed follow-up
Dr. Landrón emphasized that the system is not limited to screening, but also includes a network of 13 prioritized hospitals to ensure the continuity of treatment in cases requiring specialized procedures or studies. During these events, the population receives comprehensive care from general practitioners, specialists, pediatricians, and psychologists.
In this way, patients have accompaniment throughout the entire process, guided by a trained medical team, ensuring they can receive timely care and continue the indicated treatment.

The mayor of San José de las Matas, Ramón Alfredo Reyes, called on the citizens to take advantage of these services at no cost, emphasizing that prevention is the most effective tool against serious diseases. “Come, get checked, it’s free. The best medicine is the one that is detected in time,” declared the municipal official.
