Accident in the vicinity of Máximo Gómez leaves two people injured

A serious traffic accident was reported this Tuesday night in the National District, when a bus-type vehicle struck two people and subsequently fled the scene, leaving the victims abandoned on the pavement. The incident took place in the vicinity of Mahatma Gandhi and José Contreras streets, near Máximo Gómez Avenue.

Among those affected, José Luis Cortés and Crysmer Muñoz Mercedes have been identified. According to statements from those involved, the driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision, continuing their journey immediately after the impact.

The second injured person is a young woman who, according to preliminary reports, was returning from completing her internship duties at the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice at the time of the incident.

Intervention by the authorities

After the impact, members of the Dominican Republic Army who were patrolling the area provided immediate assistance to the injured while waiting for the arrival of the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Attention System. The agency’s paramedics stabilized the victims and proceeded with their transfer to a health center to receive specialized medical care.

The driver involved fled the scene immediately after the accident. It is expected that the security cameras installed in the perimeter will be fundamental to identifying the vehicle and clarifying the exact circumstances under which this unfortunate episode occurred.
