Bianca Acosta: The athlete who changed her life in Europe for the pride of representing the Dominican Republic
Dominican sprinter Bianca Acosta, a recent gold medalist in the women’s 4×400 meter relay, was received this Tuesday at the National Congress. The athlete was honored by Deputy Jorge Cavoli, representative of the María Trinidad Sánchez province, who highlighted her impeccable career and her unwavering sports discipline.
During the meeting at the Chamber of Deputies, the story of overcoming adversity of Acosta, who is a native of the Matapuerco community in Río San Juan, was highlighted. Despite having developed much of her professional career in Spain, the athlete made the firm decision to return to her roots to defend the national colors.
It is a source of pride not only for our town of Río San Juan and the María Trinidad Sánchez province, but for the entire Dominican Republic.

A dream come true
Acosta shared with those present the challenges he faced when making the decision to return to the country. As he recounted, the process involved leaving behind his stability abroad to bet on his dream of competing under the Dominican flag, even going so far as to move to Santo Domingo to train under the tutelage of national coaches.
My pride is my island, my country. I left my life there to come to Santo Domingo with nothing, without having a house to live in, just to train with a Dominican coach.

Clear goals for the future
Integrated into national athletics since 2023, Acosta has proven her worth on the track. Her recent success in the 4×400 meter relay, where she shared the team with prominent figures such as Anabel Medina, Milagros Durán, and Estrella De Aza, marked a milestone in her career with a recorded time of 3:28.48.
With the satisfaction of having achieved gold, the sprinter already has her roadmap mapped out for the coming years:
- Total focus on the 2027 Pan American Games.
- Intensive preparation to seek qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
- Continue raising the level of Dominican women’s athletics internationally.
