Batalla de Las Carreras Military Academy: Seven decades forging the leadership of the Dominican Army

The Batalla de Las Carreras Military Academy celebrates its seventieth anniversary, consolidating itself as the fundamental pillar in the training of officers for the Dominican Republic Army. Since its founding in 1956, this institution has been the stage where generations of men and women have cemented their character under the unwavering values of honor, discipline, sacrifice, and respect for the homeland.

A trajectory marked by history and evolution

Strategically located at kilometer 17 of the Mella highway, in San Isidro, the academy is not only an instruction center, but a true school of leadership. Its origin dates back to 1955, under the orbit of the then Dominican Military Aviation, adopting its current name in October 1956. Over the years and with the implementation of the Organic Law of the Armed Forces 139-13, the institution was fully integrated into the Army, aligning itself today with the academic standards of the National Defense University (UNADE).

Wearing the Batalla de Las Carreras Academy uniform implies assuming a historical tradition of defending national sovereignty, always remembering the courage of those who fought in April 1849 for our independence.

More than soldiers, leaders for the future

The academy’s educational model transcends tactical training. The institution combines rigorous physical and military preparation with higher academic training, allowing its cadets to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Military Sciences. This approach seeks to develop professionals capable of:

  • Make strategic decisions in high-pressure environments.
  • Exercise command based on judgment, integrity, and ethics.
  • Represent the Dominican State with dignity in any scenario.
  • Integrate technological modernity with traditional military principles.

A legacy of permanent service

Throughout 70 years, the greatest asset of this academic institution has been its human capital. Behind every graduating class lie stories of sacrifice and dedication from young people who have transformed their vocation into a lifestyle in service to the nation. Discipline, understood here not only as compliance with regulations but as a philosophy of life, remains the central axis that guides every cadet during their time at the campus.

Looking toward the future, the Batalla de Las Carreras Military Academy reaffirms its commitment to continue evolving. In a globalized world with new security challenges, the institution continues to prepare officers who not only know the history of their country, but are fully capable of defending it with honor and critical thinking in the years to come.
