Antipulpo Case: Court of Appeals postpones hearing to November

The First Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the National District has scheduled the continuation of the appeal process related to the Antipulpo case for November 24th at 10:00 in the morning. This judicial file, which has captured public attention due to the magnitude of the alleged fraud against the State, exceeds RD$5 billion according to the investigations presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The decision to postpone the hearing was made by Judge Doris Pujols, who presides over the court, after analyzing various requests presented by the defendants’ legal teams. One of the determining factors was the recent change in the technical representation of Libni Valenzuela Matos, who was granted an acquittal in the first instance of the proceedings during 2025.

Judicial process details

To ensure due process, Magistrate Pujols granted lawyer Juan José Eusebio a 20-day period so that he may structure the necessary defense briefs after taking on the case. This period, which began on September 23, will conclude on October 21. The presiding judge emphasized the importance of the parties’ preparation to advance to the next stages of the trial.

We hope that by the next hearing we will all be ready, because we understand your points, given that one of the most important resources is time.

During the session, the court dismissed the requests of several defense attorneys, including Ingrid Hidalgo, Francisco Manzano, Ramón Peralta, and Francisco Taveras, who requested the separation of their clients’ cases to begin the hearing of their appeals individually, claiming to be prepared to proceed.

Position of the Public Prosecutor’s Office

For her part, Mirna Ortiz, head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), stated that the prosecuting body did not present objections to the postponement. According to Ortiz, the Public Ministry prioritizes respect for the fundamental rights of those involved, although she reiterated that the agency is fully prepared to support its claims before the Court.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office seeks to modify the sentences handed down in the first instance. Among the key points is the request to increase to 20 years the sentence imposed on Juan Alexis Medina Sánchez, identified as the main person responsible for the scheme and initially sentenced to seven years in prison.

Key individuals involved in the case

  • Juan Alexis Medina Sánchez.
  • Magaly Medina Sánchez.
  • Fernando Rosa, former director of Fonper.
  • Freddy Hidalgo, former Minister of Public Health.
  • Antonio Germosén Andújar, former Comptroller General of the Republic.
  • Aquiles Alejandro Christopher Sánchez, linked to the Oisoe.

The Antipulpo case remains one of the most emblematic proceedings in the fight against administrative corruption and the misuse of public resources in the country, under the constant vigilance of judicial authorities.
