The Second Criminal Chamber of the National District issued a conviction this Tuesday against Ángel Martínez, following the legal process initiated by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful. The court imposed a one-year prison sentence, which has been suspended in its entirety under specific conditions.
Conviction and compensation details
The court ruling determined that Martínez must make a payment of RD$2 million as compensation to the official, thus compensating for the moral and material damages caused by the statements issued through his YouTube channel. This resolution comes after the accused admitted his guilt for the charges of defamation and slander.
- One-year prison sentence (suspended execution).
- Payment of RD$2 million as compensation.
- Strict prohibition on publishing content on social media regarding Minister Faride Raful.
Restrictions and posture of the sentenced person
As an integral part of the sentence, the court imposed a restraining order prohibiting the convicted individual from issuing any type of mention or digital content regarding the Minister of Interior and Police. Despite the court’s decision, Martínez stated upon leaving the hearing that he will maintain his public stance, asserting that the conviction will not limit his freedom of expression.
I will continue to say what I have to say, because this does not intimidate me.
