Justice system issues ruling against Ángel Martínez for defamation against Faride Raful
The Second Criminal Chamber of the National District has issued a conviction against Ángel Martínez, after determining his responsibility in the charges of defamation and slander filed by the current Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful. The judicial process concluded this Tuesday with the defendant’s admission of guilt.
Conviction details
- Deprivation of liberty: A one-year prison sentence was handed down, the execution of which has been fully suspended.
- Financial compensation: The court ordered Martínez to pay RD$2 million in compensation to the official for the moral and material damages caused.
- Judicial restriction: As part of the measures imposed, he is prohibited from making social media posts that make direct reference to the Minister of Interior and Police.
The case, which was in the trial stage, reached its final resolution after the defendant admitted to the facts before the court. It should be noted that, initially, the plaintiff had requested compensation of RD$50 million, a figure that was adjusted by the judiciary to the final amount of RD$2 million.
