Everything ready for the 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2026

The Ministry of Culture has finalized the details for the inauguration of the 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD) 2026, an event that will open its doors to the public this September 24th. The cultural event, which will run until October 4th, will feature the participation of Panama as the guest country of honor and will be dedicated to the prominent Dominican essayist and writer José Mármol.

An unprecedented literary agenda

The 28th edition of this great cultural event promises a diverse offering for lovers of reading and knowledge. Among the main attractions are:

  • More than 700 scheduled activities.
  • Presence of 70 renowned international writers.
  • Participation of 50 publishing houses, both national and foreign.
  • Integration of 44 local bookstores.
  • Free admission for all attendees.

Logistics, mobility and parking

To facilitate the massive influx, the organization has coordinated more than 1,300 parking spaces at strategic points near the Juan Pablo Duarte Plaza de la Cultura. Visitors will be able to use the facilities of allied institutions such as APEC and UNIBE universities, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT).

Comprehensive security in the premises

Visitor safety is our absolute priority. We have deployed a contingent of more than 500 state agency personnel to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment throughout the duration of the fair.

The security plan encompasses a joint deployment of the Armed Forces, the National Police, DICRIM, the Tourist Police (Politur), and intelligence agencies. The operational scheme includes:

  • Dynamic patrolling and fixed control points on the perimeter and inside the Plaza de la Cultura.
  • Access regulation through metal detectors and visual inspections.
  • Prohibition of firearms, bladed weapons, alcoholic beverages, and glass containers.
  • Coordination with DIGESETT and INTRANT to manage vehicular flow on Máximo Gómez, César Nicolás Penson, and Pedro Henríquez Ureña avenues.

Medical attention and rapid response

The event will feature a Unified Command Post (PMU) to coordinate emergencies in real time. The 911 System, the DAEH, the Civil Defense, and the National District Fire Department will be deployed with ambulances and specialized personnel. Likewise, a priority care protocol has been established for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and school delegations, in addition to an assistance system for lost minors.
