Structural crisis at the Agua de Luis School: Monte Cristi community cries out for solutions
The community of Hatillo Palma, in the province of Monte Cristi, is going through moments of deep concern due to the alarming state of deterioration of the Agua de Luis primary school. Currently, 76 students receive their education in an infrastructure that, according to parents and residents, represents a latent risk to the physical integrity of the minors and the teaching staff.
The history of abandonment of this educational center is long-standing. According to community members, the project has been stalled since 2012. Despite having been selected at the time for the extended school day program, the renovation work was never completed, leaving the physical facility in a state of extreme vulnerability.
We fear for the lives of our children and the teachers at this school, as the building is in critical deterioration and is falling to pieces. Any seismic movement would represent a tragedy for those inside.

Deplorable conditions and imminent risk
The situation of the school, which belongs to the 13-02 Educational District of Guayubín, is described by users as precarious. Among the most serious deficiencies are:
- Presence of deep cracks in walls and floors.
- Structure without columns or adequate support.
- Destroyed windows and holes in various areas of the center.
- Sanitary services improvised using a wooden and zinc latrine outside the main building.
ADP actions regarding abandonment
The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), through its branch in Guayubín, has raised its voice in protest to the Ministry of Education. The union organization has denounced that requests for intervention have been formally submitted since last year, without obtaining a satisfactory response to date.
As a pressure tactic, the ADP has announced adjustments to the school day in several schools in the area. Their main demand is the immediate compliance with Departmental Order 02-2019, which guarantees dignified conditions for the teaching-learning process, urging authorities to prioritize the safety of the educational centers in the district before a regrettable event occurs.
