Study reveals current landscape: Abinader’s approval and main social challenges
A recent investigation by the firm SONDEOS has shed light on the sentiment of Dominicans regarding the government’s management and the country’s priorities. The study, which included a sample of 1,300 interviews nationwide conducted between August 19 and 21, 2026, offers a detailed analysis of citizen perception regarding changes in the government cabinet and current economic challenges.
With a margin of error of ±3.15%, the data confirm that, despite the challenges, the administration of President Luis Abinader maintains a positive trend in its rating, reaching a 57% approval rate, compared to 36% unfavorable opinions.
Population priorities: Employment and inflation in the spotlight
Despite the support for the administration, the public maintains latent concerns about the economic and social direction. According to the report, the main concerns of Dominicans are distributed as follows:
- Employment: The main concern, pointed out by 73% of those consulted.
- Inflation: 62% identify it as a critical factor.
- Poverty: Reaches 57% of citizen concern.
- Insecurity: Present in 53% of opinions.
- Public services: 51% demand improvements in their quality.
Support for Cabinet restructuring
The recent Cabinet movements have been received with optimism, resulting in 48% of the population approving the current performance of the officials. The appointments and dismissals had a 78% approval rating, highlighting the support for figures such as Ito Bisonó in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (75%) and Jean Luis Rodríguez in the Ministry of Housing (81%).
The population has shown clear support for the strategic changes in the Government, validating the departure of previous figures and the arrival of new profiles to key positions in the State.
Notable achievements and management of state bodies
Regarding the successes attributed to the current administration, support for education tops the list at 78%, closely followed by tourism development (73%) and aqueduct infrastructure (67%).
The study also evaluated the heads of constitutional bodies, highlighting the work of prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, who obtained an 84% positive rating, followed by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, with 77%.
Efficiency and reputation: The best-rated officials
The government efficiency ranking is led by Wellington Arnaud, director of INAPA, with a 76% approval rating. Other officials highlighted for their performance include the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, and the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel de Camps, the latter also recognized for possessing the highest levels of public reputation.
Finally, the sporting event of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 received a resounding endorsement: 91% of citizens consider that its celebration was highly beneficial for the country.
