Hayden Álvarez leads the 2026 LIDOM Rookie Draft as the Licey’s first pick
The 2026 Rookie Draft of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) concluded with a historic day for the Tigres del Licey, who secured the services of outfielder Hayden Álvarez as the first overall pick of the event.
Álvarez, a talented prospect from Bonao and a member of the Los Angeles Angels organization, joins a select list of players chosen in the first round by the blue team, a group that previously only included Rymer Liriano and Adalberto Mondesí since the draft’s inception in 2002.
At just 19 years old and with a $685,000 international signing bonus, the young outfielder stands out for his versatility, combining solid contact ability with elite speed and high-level defense that projects him as a key piece for the future of Dominican baseball.

The first round of the draft made clear the high level of talent that winter league franchises are looking for. After Álvarez’s selection by Licey, the rest of the teams completed their initial picks with promising figures from organized baseball in the United States:
