Blow to drug trafficking: 1,300 pounds of marijuana seized in Puerto Cortés
In a strategic operation carried out in Puerto Cortés, Cortés department, Honduran security forces achieved a significant blow against the trafficking of illicit substances. The National Anti-Drug Police Directorate (DNPA), in conjunction with other specialized units, intercepted a shipment of approximately 1,300 pounds of suspected marijuana.
The operation, the result of prior intelligence and surveillance work, was carried out following the inspection of a minibus. Inside the vehicle, agents found 28 rectangular bales containing the illicit substance, which has been placed in custody for the corresponding laboratory analysis.
Detainees and possible criminal links
As a result of the intervention, three men aged 29, 55, and 68 were arrested at the scene. The individuals are now at the disposal of judicial authorities, facing preliminary charges for aggravated illicit drug trafficking.
Initial investigations suggest that this shipment of marijuana could be linked to criminal structures such as the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a hypothesis that will be confirmed as the judicial process progresses.

The National Police of Honduras reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against drug trafficking, keeping multiple lines of investigation open to dismantle the networks operating in the region and ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
