Kyle Busch Settles Million-Dollar Lawsuit with Insurance Company
NASCAR’s two-time champion, Kyle Busch, has reached an agreement with a life insurance company to settle a lawsuit for $8.5 million. Busch alleged he was misled when purchasing policies presented as secure retirement plans. According to court documents from February 26, Kyle and Samantha Busch reached an out-of-court settlement with Pacific Life Insurance Company. The terms of the settlement were kept confidential. The Busches filed the lawsuit against Pacific Life last October, claiming to have lost more than $8.5 million after being deceived into purchasing life insurance policies. They argued they had paid over $10.4 million in premiums, based on misleading illustrations and false promises of guaranteed returns. The lawsuit accused Pacific Life and one of its agents of marketing indexed universal life policies as “tax-free retirement plans,” using speculative projections that did not disclose the true risks and costs. The complaint alleged that the company prioritized commissions over the interests of the insured and violated North Carolina’s Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act. In January, Pacific Life requested the dismissal of the lawsuit, alleging that the Busches did not fully fund their policies and signed documents accepting the terms. The company also argued that the lawsuit exceeded the three-year statute of limitations, noting that it was filed seven years after the policies were initiated.“Both parties worked constructively to achieve a confidential outcome that is mutually acceptable and avoids future legal proceedings,” Pacific Life stated in a statement.
