Dillon Danis, banned for life by the UFC

The UFC has banned Dillon Danis from future events, according to the company’s CEO, Dana White. Danis, known for being a former training partner of MMA superstar Conor McGregor, was involved in a brawl with several members of UFC champion Islam Makhachev’s team during UFC 322. The altercation occurred on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, just before the start of the main card, where Makhachev was headlining a welterweight title fight against Jack Della Maddalena. Several videos showed Danis in a fight with Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Magomed Zaynukov, Makhachev’s teammates.

I was on the other side of the octagon and I said, “Shit, I know exactly what this is.” You will never see Dillon Danis in a UFC fight again.

In the press conference after the UFC 322 event, White stated that he would not press charges against Danis, but made it clear that the 32-year-old fighter would not be welcome at any UFC event. Danis was in McGregor’s corner in 2018, when McGregor lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a UFC title fight in Las Vegas. The two squads maintained a strong rivalry before that fight, with McGregor making disparaging comments about Nurmagomedov’s family and religion. Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in their title fight and then jumped out of the octagon to attack his corner. The rivalry has calmed down a bit over the years. However, Nurmagomedov and Makhachev have been teammates for a long time, and Danis mocked Makhachev in several social media posts during fight week.
